Nestled in Ikun-Ekiti, within Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Promasidor Nigeria’s Ikun Dairy Farm stands as a symbol of the company’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s dairy value chain. Established in 2019 in partnership with the Ekiti State Government, the farm reflects a deliberate strategy to support the national dairy development programme by increasing local milk production and reducing dependence on imports. With an initial investment of $5 million and continued capital expansion over the years, the facility has grown into a critical asset within Promasidor’s operations.
Spanning over 500 hectares, the Ikun Dairy Farm is currently home to more than 750 high-yielding cattle, making it the largest dairy farm in Nigeria. The farm operates with advanced dairy management systems, including structured breeding programmes supported by routine artificial insemination, ensuring sustainable herd growth and improved productivity. Backed by experienced veterinary professionals and trained dairy practitioners, the farm maintains high standards in animal health, milk quality, and operational efficiency.
A key pillar of the farm’s success lies in its robust feed security programme. To guarantee consistent and high-quality nutrition for the herd, Promasidor cultivates over 500 hectares of maize and soya beans. This integrated approach not only supports optimal milk yield but also reinforces the farm’s sustainability model by reducing reliance on external feed sources and ensuring year-round supply stability.
Beyond production, Ikun Dairy Farm has evolved into a hub for economic empowerment and community development. The facility directly employs over 200 individuals from the host community, while generating more than 1,000 indirect jobs across the surrounding areas. This has significantly contributed to job creation, wealth generation, and the broader economic growth of Ekiti State, reinforcing Promasidor’s role as a responsible corporate citizen.
The farm’s impact also extends into social development through initiatives such as the Ikun Milk Day programme. Through this initiative, fresh milk produced at the farm is distributed weekly to primary school children within the community, supporting their nutrition, well-being, and learning outcomes. The IDF team also educates the pupils on modern and sustainable farming practices and nutrition. This effort reflects Promasidor’s broader commitment to improving lives and fostering healthier communities through its operations.
The Ikun Dairy Farm exemplifies this vision, bringing together innovation, sustainability, and community impact to drive food security, economic development, and long-term growth within Nigeria’s dairy industry.
