Onga has marked this year’s World Jollof Day with yet again another delightful edition of the Onga Jollof Battle, dubbed the “Influencers’ Edition”. The event, which generated a lot of buzz online, successfully concluded after six content creators and online influencers battled it out for culinary supremacy in Jollof preparation. Dr Akosua Ellen Kyei Baffour, known online as “Akosua Tasty Recipe”, emerged as the ultimate winner of the competition, after showcasing her cooking artistry in the preparation of a Vegan Jollof dish with Onga Soya Bean Chunks, to the delight of judges and blind tasters. She took home the mouth-watering grand cash prize of GHS15,000 and a 6-month Onga brand influencership deal.

Renowned Tiktoker, brand influencer and founder of Kesse Cooks, Wesley Kesse came second, taking home a cash prize of GHS 10,000, and Mawuena, who won a cash prize of GHS 5,000, came third. All contestants were presented with products and souvenirs from the brand. In 2019, Onga commenced the annual Onga Jollof battle, a competitive Jollof cooking event amongst selected groups/individuals to commemorate World Jollof Day. The maiden edition hosted a Nigerian chef, who represented the Onga brand in Nigeria, and a Ghanaian chef representing the Onga brand in Ghana, in a heated competition, which saw Ghana adjudged the winner. Subsequent years were followed by a series of other events on World Jollof Day,, including the  2022 edition of the competition which featured alumni of eight popular senior high schools in the country contending for the bragging right of Jollof Champions.

“As a leader in the food seasoning category and the seasoning of choice for the preparation of Jollof, Onga continues to provide unique exhilarating brand experiences to patrons and consumers whilst delivering in the pot with great taste and aroma. World Jollof day is a very important day in the activity calendar of the brand, the preparation of Jollof is not complete without a touch of Onga. We are happy to mark this day with the Onga Jollof Battle as has been the case for the past 5 years”, Assistant Brand Manager, Sandra Anoff said in a media interview.

“We want to re-emphasize the importance of this delicacy in the Ghanaian food basket, leverage on its prominence to promote our local cuisine which is a strong pillar in our tourism sector. We equally want to use this year’s edition of the Jollof battle to encourage entrepreneurship and capacity development for online content creators,” she further added. World Jollof Day is an international day dedicated to the celebration of Jollof rice as an important dish in the food culture of the West African community. In Ghana, the day is commemorated with series of competitive activities and culinary events by brands, institutions, families, and friends. The Onga Jollof Battle has taken centre stage of World Jollof Day conversation since commencement in the year 2019.
